JAZZ AJAZZ BJAZZ WORKSHOP

Amador Valley High School has a highly successful jazz program consisting of three ensembles: Jazz A, Jazz B, and Jazz Workshop. All bands have full instrumentation. Jazz A and Jazz B consistently earn high honors and awards for their musicianship and skill. In addition, members participate regularly in local, regional, and national honors jazz ensembles.

For the 2023-2024 year, Jazz A is led by Mr. Fell — this is the only jazz band that meets during the regular school day. Jazz B, also directed by Mr. Fell, meets 2-3 times per week after school outside of marching band events. Jazz Workshop is taught by Mr. Grantham and meets 1-2 times per week after school outside of marching band events.

The jazz bands perform in winter and spring concerts as well as the Campana Jazz Festival and several other festivals. In the fall, interested students can audition for spots in regional and all-state jazz bands.

All jazz band placements are based on audition results from the previous spring. Jazz band members (except for piano, bass and guitar) are required to also enroll in a concert band.
