November 14, 2022

Dear Amador Valley Band Community,

Just like that, we are already in mid-November. The hot summer days of Band Camp have now turned into warm afternoons with brisk evenings for Marching Band and Color Guard practices. The past years’ concerns about the pandemic are still around but have thankfully diminished as the number of COVID cases on campus has significantly decreased and our band marches at a healthy size of more than 300!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Marching Band Uniform Fund. This monumental task of outfitting our 300 member Marching Band with brand new uniforms took 10 years to fund, and it was finally completed when the band marched into the stadium in new uniforms for the Homecoming Game in early October - check out this video. Countless people were involved, donating funds and their time to this effort. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now that the Marching Band season is at its final week of the season and WBA Championships are right around the corner, we are turning our attention to an important aspect of the program - funding. We are reaching out to you to ask for your donation to support our Music Program via Snap! Raise: AVHS Marching Band & Color Guard 2022-23.

The 2022 Marching Band and Color Guard has had increased expenses - anticipated and unanticipated - during the season. The Big Purple Band increased in size from the beginning of the season, which led to adding a seventh bus to transport the Marching Band to competitions. The bigger size of the band also meant increased cost for lodging and meals for Championships, which will be held in Southern California this year. Inflation has also raised the cost of everything. And with the last minute change of WBA Championship competition venue from Monterey Park to Riverside, we are incurring additional unanticipated expenses such as increased transportation costs of more than $10,000, due to the longer travel times.

We really are in need of donations this season. We are so thankful to all who have donated to the Marching Band and Color Guard in the past. We are counting on our community again this year to be a part of the band by donating to support the band. Go Marching Dons - past, present, and future!

With utmost gratitude,

Jonathan Grantham
