Message from our AFM President:
Read the message from our AFM President about supporting our music program.
Amador Music depends on donations from families to maintain our programs.
Your donations help fund many things that district funding cannot fully cover:
MARCHING BAND UNIFORMS • FIELD SHOW MUSIC • CHOREOGRAPHY • COMPETITION FEES • PROPS • TRANSPORTATION • COLOR GUARD EQUIPMENT • INSTRUMENT PURCHASES • INSTRUMENT REPAIRS • SHEET MUSIC • COACHING STIPENDS
Students may participate in our music programs regardless of financial ability. The AFM annual budget is developed on the premise that all families will contribute as much as they are able. All donations are greatly appreciated, even if you cannot give the full suggested amount.
In a typical year, your donations to AFM are needed to fund over two dozen additional staff members and music coaches who assist the directors, music, instruments repairs and replacement instruments, classroom supplies, out-of-town competitions, and more. Some years we have additional expenses when ensembles are invited to perform out-of-state, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, and the Fiesta Bowl Parade in Arizona.
Each year we calculate costs for each ensemble, divide by students participating, and determine a suggested tax-deductible donation. Precise amounts for these "asks" are determined in the spring, when budgets are finalized. To help with budgeting and meeting expenses, a portion of the amount is requested in the Spring before the school year starts and the remaining amount is requested during the school year, starting at Fall registration.
As a public school, all students may participate in the music program, regardless of financial contribution. This model only works if most of our families donate.
Please contact the AFM Treasurer (treasurer@amadormusic.org) with any questions.
More than 90% of AFM's projected operating budget will come from contributions by families, alumni, and other supporters. Your donations are vital. They allow Amador Friends of Music (AFM) to support the music programs in a way that minimizes burden on the students. Music students are not asked to help fund the program by selling items (e.g., cookie dough or wrapping paper) so that they can focus on their music and academic studies.
