Amador Valley has a highly successful jazz program consisting of three ensembles: Jazz A, Jazz B, and Jazz Workshop. All bands have full instrumentation. Jazz A and Jazz B consistently earn high honors and awards for their musicianship and skill. In addition, members participate regularly in local, regional and national honors jazz ensembles.
The “A” Jazz Band is taught by Mr. Aubel and is the only jazz band that meets during the regular school day. The “B” Jazz Band is taught by Mr. Dandrea and meets after school twice a week in the fall and three times a week in the spring. The “Jazz Workshop” is taught by Mr. Grantham and meets after school twice per week in the spring only. All jazz bands are based on an auditions which occur in May of the previous year.

The Amador Valley Music Department and AFM are the hosts of the annual Campana Jazz Festival, Named in honor of Mr. Jim Campana, AVHS Music Director from 1959 through 1979, the Campana Jazz Festival is one of the highlights of the Pleasanton Unified School District’s musical year.
