Choir

The Amador Valley Choir Department consists of 2 large groups and 5 smaller ensembles.  The 2 large groups that meet during the regular school day are Concert Choir and Chamber Choir.  The 5 smaller groups which meet during lunch are: Mens’ Choir, Womens’ Choir, Barbershop Quartet, Beautyshop Quartet, and Mixed Vocal Ensemble  (Contemporary Acapella). Concert Choir is open to all students (9-12) and does not require an audition. All other groups are auditioned ensembles.

Another optional choral activity is the Spring District Musical.  The 2020 musical is “All Shook Up” with auditions occurring during November.

As they did in 2019, the Chamber Choir consistently receives “Unanimous Superior” ratings at the California Music Educators Choral Festival.  In addition, they received the Choral Sweepstakes award at the Big Apple Choral Competition in New York in 2016. Both the Concert and Chamber Choir will be participating in that New York City festival again in April of 2020.

In addition to classical and choral music, the choirs sing in a variety of styles including: jazz, Broadway, spirituals, world music, foreign languages, and contemporary acapella.  If you would like to hear an example of a song we performed go to this link:

The choirs often combine with our award winning orchestra and jazz band groups.  This year they will be performing Mozart’s “Te Deum” with the Symphony Orchestra for their masterwork piece.  If you have any questions regarding the Amador Choir Program please contact Mr. Aubel at maubel@pleasantonusd.net
