The Marching Band & Colorguard, also known as the Marching Dons, counts approximately 230 students in 2010-2011. The Dons are a Western Band Association (WBA) State Finalist (2005-2009), a Bands of America (BOA) Regional Finalist, 2006, 2007 and 2009, and have appeared in the London New Year’s Day Parade in both 2005 and 2009.
The musicians of the marching band play in a total of four Concert Bands – Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble II and Wind Ensemble I. The Amador Valley Music program also includes two Jazz Band, Orchestra and several Choir ensembles, including Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Women's Choir, Mixed Vocal Ensemble and Men's Ensemble. The Guard and Percussion units perform in Winterguard and Winter Percussion circuits.
Mr. Jonathan Grantham is the Director of Jazz B, all of the concert bands, the Marching Band and Colorguard, and Winterguard and Winter Percussion. Mr. Mark Aubel is the Director of Jazz A, the orchestra and the choirs. Each director has been recognized with a Pleasanton Unified School District Excellence in Education award.
The Amador Valley Music program is supported by the Amador Friends of Music (AFM), a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization which provides organization, fundraising, and volunteer support to the music program.
The Amador Valley Music Department and AFM are the hosts of an annual Winter Guard and Winter Percussion Show, and the Campana Jazz Festival, both of which are held on the campus of Amador Valley High School each February.
The Annual Magic of Music - an evening of dance, dinner, and auctions – is the primary fundraiser for instruments, uniforms, and other expenses associated with the award-winning music programs. In 2011, the Magic of Music will be held on Saturday, April 30.
The public is welcome at our performances.
