Fundraising FAQ

Any new fundraisers coming?

AFM is currently developing several new fundraisers. Our goal is to encourage support for the program outside existing AFM family support, and develop fundraisers that minimize the time impact on AFM families. If you have any suggestions or ideas please contact the AFM Fundraising, they will be welcome.

When is the best time of the year to donate?

In general, donations are most effective near the beginning of a season, and ideally this is the best time to make your requested donations. AFM will send donation requests via email. It is also acceptable to spread any donation throughout the year. AFM will keep you updated with your donation, fundraising credits. These records may also be helpful for your own financial and tax planning purposes.

Are my donations and contributions a tax deduction?

Unfortunately the lawyers tell us we can’t give you tax advice, so check with your tax professional.

Is AFM a non-profit organization?

Yes, AFM is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization. Contact AFM Fundraising if documentation is needed for a contribution.

How can I make a Donation?

You may contribute by check or PayPal. Checks should be made payable to AFM, and mailed to AFM, PO Box 602, Pleasanton, CA 94566. If you’d like to avoid postage, you can also deposit your payment in the drop box in the band room. It is a brown wooden box on the wall directly across from Mr. Grantham’s office.

You may contribute via PayPal. PayPal charges a processing fee of about 2.2%, but that is charged to AFM, not to you. This charge is not insignificant, and so we appreciate payment by check if possible. However, if the convenience and flexibility of PayPal is more suitable for you, then please go right ahead and use it.

What businesses offer Scrip?

A few local businesses support AFM by offering their scrip to us at a discount.

Most national franchise stores, restaurants, online retailers, hotels, etc. offer scrip. Check out www.shopwithscrip.com, click on "SHOP", and you can browse all of the retailers. You can also "Print A List" by clicking on the link shown on the Retailer List page in the bottom right-hand corner of the “Shop” page.

How much money can I contribute using Scrip?

The average family’s annual savings range between $100-$300, but some are as high as $600-$700. Over the 4-years of high school music programs, that can really add up!

Keep in mind that while many people like to use credit cards for the same type of purchases (and eScrip helps here), most eScrip programs average 1-2% rebates, while most Scrip offers at least a 5% rebate.

Can people outside the music program use Scrip and eScrip to contribute to AFM?

YES! Friends and family can use both programs can contribute towards AFM.

How do I determine what Scrip to purchase?

Think groceries and gas. Where do you buy school supplies? School clothes? Where does your busy student like to snack on the run? Do you order through Amazon.com? Do you have a college student setting up a dorm room or apartment? Look at your recent credit card statement and compare to the www.shopwithscrip.com retailers list.

The most commonly ordered Scrip is: Safeway, Lucky’s, Arco, Starbucks, Kohls, Subway, Red Robin, Chili’s, Sweet Tomatoes, Amazon.com, Best Western, VIP Cleaners, McDonalds & Baja Fresh. You can also use Safeway Scrip to purchase all the retail giftcard offerings within the Safeway store.

What should I do if I am unable to donate to the program?

Amador Friends of Music is committed to ensuring that every student is able to participate, regardless of financial circumstance. Should you not be able to donate please do not feel obligated to do so.

All members are encouraged to participate in individual fundraising activities - such as Scrip, eScrip, and Scottish Games - all funds that will be received on behalf of your student. Volunteering is also an excellent way of supporting the organization.
