Amador Valley H.S. Music

The Amador Valley High School Music Program consists of five Concert Bands – two Wind Ensembles,  Wind Syphonies, and Symphonic Band.  The Amador Valley Music program also includes three Jazz Bands (Jazz A, Jazz B, and Workshop), two Orchestras and several Choir ensembles, including Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Women's Choir, Mixed Vocal Ensemble and Men's Ensemble.  The Guard and Percussion units perform in two Winterguards and Winter Percussion units.

About Us

The Marching Dons are a voluntary organization consisting of over 300 students each year.  The band has been a Western Band Association (WBA) State Finalist every year since 2005 and are a Bands of America (BOA) Regional Finalist at each regional they have attended. Additionally the band has twice appeared in the London New Year’s Day Parade and the Fiesta Bowl National Band Championships and Parade, winning the field show portion in 2016.


Ensembles

Directors

 

  • Mr. Jonathan Grantham is the Director of Jazz Workshop, all five concert bands, the Marching Dons and Winter Guard and Winter Percussion.
  • Mr. Mark Aubel is the Director of Jazz A, the orchestras and the choirs.  
  • Mr. Patrick Dandrea is the Assistant Director of Bands and co-directs three of the concert bands as well as directing Jazz B and teaching AP Music Theory.

Mr. Grantham and Mr. Aubel both have been recognized with a Pleasanton Unified School District Excellence in Education award as well as being awarded PUSD Teacher of the Year.

Amador Friends of Music

The Amador Valley Music program is supported by the Amador Friends of Music (AFM), a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization which provides organization, fundraising, and volunteer support to the music program.

The public is welcome at our performances.

Sponsored Events

The Amador Valley Music Department and AFM are the hosts of an annual Winter Guard, and the Campana Jazz Festival, both of which are held on the campus of Amador Valley High School each February. Since 2015, AVHS and AFM have hosted CMEA Large Group Festival and our biggest fundraising event of the year, the Pancake Breakfast.
